The Big Easy, home of the Saints (and Drew Brees), birthplace of Jazz ol "Satchmo" Louis Armstrong... N'awlins.
Heard of it in the news, seen it on TV, listened to its music in junior high school, and I finally got to go.
Everything's just so laid back here, everybody knows how to take things sloooooww and easy. May not be the cleanest city, or the most developed, but it's one of the friendliest and most fun. You can find great Po'boy sandwiches in the middle of a rundown neighborhood, battered by Katrina. Hear Dixie Land Jazz in Preservation Hall over incomprehensible creole talk. And pretty much do and find whatever the hell you want on Bourbon Street (flashing tits, female impersonators, strip clubs, and drinking on the streets included).
And talk about food and the obssesion with it. From the simple and legendary beignets and chicory cafe au lait in Cafe du Monde to John Besh's August tasting menus. Everything is tasty, delicious, and has a hint of French and Acadian flavours in it.
Ah New Orleans, loved it...
